Perseverance Unit
Our first unit is our perseverance unit. This unit focuses on perseverance and our essential question to be answered at the conclusion of the unit is "How do characters, real and fictional, use words and actions to demonstrate perseverance?" We will complete a number of different assignments and activities throughout this unit, as well as, read a variety of books and literature.
Below you find the link to the different journal topics that you will be required to complete throughout the course of this unit. These journals will be completed daily while you're completing your assigned reading. Your daily journal entries need to be completed on paper in a notebook that you bring to class each day. Each day when you are done reading you will chose a journal topic to respond to. It's your choice which one you write in, and it will depend on what you read about that day, but make sure that at the conclusion of the unit you have a minimum of five entries for each topic. Please note that you need to read one biography each week from the yellow folder in order to complete the journal expectations.

Research Project
You will work with a partner to research a famous person (such as Martin Luther King Jr., Geronimo, or another person of your choosing) who persevered in spite of significant challenges. Use a wide range of credible print and electronic, primary, and secondary resources for your research (Minimum of four). See if you can find a video clip of him or her speaking on YouTube. Write and present your multimedia report to the class, making a case for why the person you chose is a striking example of determination and perseverance in the face of difficult circumstances. Be sure to edit your work for sentence variety and spelling.
I will share the dates that we have computers in the classroom in order for you to gather your research. If you need additional time to gather your research, you will need to find time on your own to do so.
After you gather all of your research materials, you will create a presentation on the MAC computers based on what you found and present to your classmates.
Below you will find our reading schedule for the group novels that we are reading in class.
